How to Get Back App Store into iTunes on Mac and Windows PC

App Store into iTunes on Mac and Windows PC: App management through iTunes was a popular feature that was removed from iTunes 12.7 so as to manage apps directly on iOS devices. But Apple has released an alternative version of iTunes which is iTunes 12.6.3 that maintains the capability to download and install iOS apps directly within the iTunes application on a computer to manage apps with an iPhone or iPad connected through a Mac or Windows PC.

iTunes 12.6.3 is available that Mac and Windows users can download. It can be easily installed over iTunes 12.7 to regain the native iOS App Store functionality for improved iPhone and iPad app management. Apple users that need to have the iOS App Store functionality in iTunes on their computers again should download and install the alternative iTunes release. Therefore, you can get back the App Store into iTunes to sync apps or ringtones to your iOS device as before.

How do I access the iTunes App Store on my PC?

You can access the App Store, apps, or Tones in iTunes 12.6.3 as it is basically the same as previous versions of iTunes, below are the necessary steps to get app management and the App Store back in iTunes on Mac and Windows PC.

You can download and install iTunes 12.6.3 into the computer over iTunes 12.7 or a previous release version. Follow the below steps to install iTunes 12.6.3 with App Store:

  1. You need to launch iTunes as usual as you do.
  2. Then select the pulldown menu in the upper left corner.
  3. You can access the App Store in iTunes.
  4. Then choose Apps or Tones.
  5. You can get to the Apps section of iTunes again.
  6. Then under Apps, you will find the app library, updates, and an App Store option will able to download apps directly into the App Store via iTunes again.
  7. You can access apps and App Store in iTunes 12.6.3.

When you connect an iPhone or iPad to iTunes 12.6.3 and select the device by clicking on the tiny little icon in the title bar of the app, you can also have direct access to tones and apps on the device through iTunes again as well.

The download and installation of iTunes 12.6.3 also stop iTunes from asking the user to download any new versions. So, if you want to stay on iTunes 12.6.3 with the App Store, ringtones, and other features that are since removed from future versions, you can easily do that.

If you do not have iTunes on your computer, you can get the latest version of iTunes by following the below steps:

  1. You need to open the App Store on Mac or iTunes.
  2. Then click the Sign In button in the lower-left corner in the App Store.
  3. Then in iTunes, you need to choose Account then Sign In from the menu bar at the top of your computer screen or at the top of the iTunes window.
  4. You need to enter the Apple ID and password that you use with the App Store and iTunes Store and then press the Return or Enter key on your keyboard or click Sign In. 

Redownload music on a Mac

You need to open the Music app then Sign in with the same Apple ID that you originally used to purchase the item.

  1. You need to choose Account then Purchased from the menu bar at the top of your computer screen.
  2. Then find the music that you want to redownload.
  3. Then click the download button for the album or song and you can find the music in the Music app.

Redownload music on iTunes for Windows

  1. You need to open iTunes and then Sign in with the same Apple ID that you originally used to purchase the item.
  2. Need to choose Account then Purchased from the menu bar at the top of the iTunes window.
  3. You can choose Music from the menu in the upper-left corner of the iTunes window.
  4. Then find the music that you want to redownload.
  5. Then click the download button for the album or song.
