How to Get Water Out of iPhone Speakers

“How to Get water out of iPhone speakers”, no matter how careful we may be, this is one question that we all desperately google and try to find a remedy for. iPhones are known for their top-notch sound quality and losing out on that experience due to water getting into them can be rather tragic. Although the newer iPhones are somewhat water-resistant, they are in no way capable of functioning damage-free if submerged in anything liquid beyond a certain point.

And unlike Apple Watch, iPhones are still not technologically advanced enough to officially eject water from the speaker grilles and require external assistance to be able to do so. But fret not, we have curated a list of ways to remove water out of your iPhone speakers and get them back to their original conditions.

Best Ways to Get Water out of iPhone Speakers

1) The Free Sonic App

use the sonic app

One of the best and most trusted ways of manually getting water out of iPhone speakers is by installing the Sonic App and letting it do its magic. This particular app plays a sound, either manually or automatically, on different frequency levels to dispel water out of the speaker grilles. There are various such Sonic Apps available on the Apple Store and you can choose any of them to do the job for you.

Once you have decided on the desired Sonic App and installed it on your iPhone, there are a couple of options to choose from.

2) The Manual Way for Water out of iPhone Speakers

As the name suggests, by using this particular option, you can adjust the sound frequency (Hz) as per your requirement and according to the level of water damage, you have had. Although as per experts, the ideal frequency to get water out of iPhone speakers is around 165 Hz and it is advisable to set the frequency at around this level.

It is also imperative to increase your iPhone’s volume as high as you can and keep an eye on the speakers for the escaping water droplets. The Sonic App, when set on the right frequency, sends mechanical vibration waves through its speakers and causes the water to seep out from the speaker grilles.

There might also be instances when the water gets out of the charging port or no water comes out but the sound coming from the iPhone is back to normal. Under such circumstances, go ahead and press “Stop” on the screen as you successfully managed to get water out of your iPhone speakers.

3) The Automatic Way to Eject Water from Your iPhone

Sonic also has an automatic setting that you can use if you don’t feel satisfied with the results achieved through the manual option. To use the automatic option, tap and hold down the water droplet icon on the screen and let the frequency go higher than 165 Hz causing all the leftover water to emit out from the speaker grilles.

Sonic is a user-friendly app and one of the easiest ways to get water out of iPhone speakers. It is also especially handy if you use your iPhone often around water and are prone to dropping them in.

 Rice it to Fix it

Uncooked rice is known to be a great water absorbent and has been used by many to fix water damage from various electronic devices. Though the effectiveness of the same in case of completely getting water out of iPhone’s speakers is doubtful, it is a good method to draw out some of the moisture from the device.

Turn off your phone and properly submerge it inside a heap of uncooked rice. It is suggested to keep it submerged for a couple of days to see proper results and cause a change to take place.

Silica Gel for the Win

silica gel

Silica Gels are a step above rice when it comes to absorbing water out of things and keeping them dry. These gels come in small white packets and can be easily found in shoe boxes and bags. You can use these Silica Gel packets to draw out water from your iPhone by submerging it in these packets for a day or two and letting it reverse the water damage.

The method is more effective when the silica gel is used out of the packets, but that can turn out too risky as the gel might burst and damage your phone.

Shake it out

Gravity can do many things, and getting water out of your phone can be one of them. Even though this will not expel all the water from your iPhone, it is often the first step to unclogging your speakers and getting some of the liquid out of your phone’s grilles.

We suggest you first properly wipe the phone with a dry cloth and gently shake it towards the floor. Make sure to have a firm grip on the phone and shake it on top of a bed or cushioned surface to prevent any further damage from falling.

Note: We advise you to not put your iPhone on charge until you have gotten all the water out of the speakers. In case these remedies don’t work out, do visit a repair shop to get it properly fixed.

Remember, Apple doesn’t cover water damage under warranty, so use your iPhone carefully around water.
