Following are some troubleshooting solution for Airdrop to work again:

Check if your iOS Device is Discoverable

The first thing to check is the discoverability of your device when your Airdrop does not work. Airdrop should be manually enabled in Control Center on iOS devices and in Mac’s Finder for it to work.

Step1. Swipe up from the bottom of your iOS screen for the control centre.

Step2. Now tap on  AirDrop for your discoverability mode.

Step3. A popup list to configure your settings will be displayed. Choose one of the options on the basis with whom you want to share files.

  • Receiving Off: You won’t receive AirDrop requests.
  • Contacts Only: Only your contacts can see your device.
  • Everyone: All nearby iOS devices using AirDrop can see your device.

In order to avoid the discoverability issue, we would recommend you to select Everyone from given options.

For Mac OS

Making Airdrop discoverable and solve Airdrop not working on Mac OS is slightly different than your iPhone, Follow below steps.

Step1: On your Mac, go to Finder and then to Menu Bar.

Step2: Click Go > AirDrop, then click Allow me to be discovered by.

Step3:  Choose Everyone.

Now when you manually activated Airdrop on your device here are some other steps to check for airdrop discoverability.

All the connected devices must be within the detected range. AirDrop works based is like WiFi and Bluetooth, so your connected devices must be within the Bluetooth range so that it can be detected. When using Airdrop try to remain in the distance within 6 meters. Going beyond this range can make your device undiscoverable.

Turn off your AirPlane mode

As you must be aware of Airplane mode will cut down all network as well as wireless connections like Bluetooth and Airdrop will also stop working. So in case you have turned on Airplane mode turn it off in order to access airdrop.

To turn off airplane mode swipe up from the bottom of your iPhone screen. Now tap on the Airplane button to turn it off. Now check if you Airdrop works or not.

Make Sure Your Screen in Turn On when Using Airdrop

If in case you have the screen of your iOS device is off you will not be able to send or receive any files with AirDrop. So make sure your iOS device screen is on when using AirDrop.

In case of Mac, AirDrop can be used when the screen is off, but airdrop would not work in the sleep mode. So make sure it’s not in sleep mode.

Do Not to Transfer Files of Different Types

Though you can transfer many kinds of files by AirDrop, you can’t transfer different types of files with AirDrop at the same time. So make sure you transfer the same kind of time.

Re Sign-in your iCloud Account

Many times AirDrop issue occur due to the iCloud issue. So for that simply sign out from your iClud account and sign in back again do this for iOS as well as Mac devices.

Step1: Head to Settings, and tap on your name at the top to go to iCloud.

Step2: Tap on Sign Out, type your Apple ID password for confirmation.

Step3: Now, in the same way,  tap on your name go to iCloud and Sign in with your iCloud id and password.

Once done check for AirDrop again and see if it works.

Turn off and on Bluetooth and WiFi

Now AirDrop will work fine when both the wireless connection option WiFi and Bluetooth perform well. In case there something wrong with  WiFi or Bluetooth, AirDrop may not work too. Turning on Airdrop will automatically enable wifi and Bluetooth. So by turning off and on Bluetooth and wifi button is one other troubleshooting solution to resolve Airdrop working.

See the following steps to turn off and on Bluetooth and wifi:

Step1: Go to Settings and select WLAN.

Step2: Tap the WLAN button to turn off, and tap it again and turn it on.

Step3:  Similarly select Bluetooth from setting

Step4: Tap the Bluetooth button to turn it off, and then turn it on again.

Turn off Personal Hotspot

Step3:  Now Reopen your AirDrop and try it again.

Check Do Not Disturb Mode

You must be aware of The Do Not Disturb mode on your device which helps you to silence calls, alerts and notifications. This feature also disables Airdrop so if Do not feature is enabled on your device turn it off while you use  Airdrop.

Step1 Swipe up from the bottom of the device screen.
Step2: Tap the moon icon to turn off Do Not Disturb mode. Now try AirDrop again to see if it works.

Check the WiFi network

For Airdrop to work properly your WiFi network should work fine. It is an important factor to have AirDrop to be working. Follow the following step to check for your wifi network.

Check with your wifi network by opening a browser, if it’s not performing well switch to a different wifi connection.

Make sure the devices are in the same network

If you using airdrop between an iOS device and MaC make sure that both of these devices are connected to the same WiFi network this can help solve the problem, too.

Reset network settings

If you are still not able to resolve Airdrop functioning try resetting your network connection.

Note that this step will remove all the saved network settings so please make sure you remember your WiFi network passwords as you will have to enter it later.

Check Firewall on Mac

If AirDrop is not working when transfer items to Mac, it’s possible that the Mac blocks AirDrop items. Check these steps:

Step3: Uncheck the box next to Block all incoming connections, then click OK.

Step4: Try to AirDrop items again.
