Hulu allows you to record your favorite live TV shows to watch later. You can get 50 hours of cloud DVR storage with the base subscription. It does not come with the ability to fast-forward through commercials. If you want that feature, you need to pay an extra $9.99 per month and get 200 hours of cloud DVR storage. Hulu helps users to manage their DVR by showing the amount of storage left. You can also choose to record all future aired broadcasts or only new episodes.

Equipment Required to Get Started 

Hulu with Live TV needs a high-speed internet connection. When you sign up, you need to use a supported device such as Roku Express, Amazon Fire TV Stick or Google Chromecast to stream content on your TV. Here is a list of the devices that Hulu supports according to its website:

How Does Hulu simultaneous Multi-Device Streaming Work?

You can watch Hulu with Live TV simultaneously on two different devices with the base subscription. Then you can watch Hulu Live TV on all of your devices at the same time. You need to upgrade to the Unlimited Screens plan and connected to your home network. If you away from your Wi-Fi location, you can only use up to three mobile devices at the same time. Your subscription to Hulu with Live TV will not work on any other TV-connected device outside of your home network.

Hulu with Live TV has 50 hours of storage in the Cloud DVR. You can upgrade to 200 hours for the additional cost. You can add content to your “My Stuff” section automatically. It records the shows and movies on your list so you can watch them at any time. You can also remove the content you are finished with.

You can subscribe to Premium Channels with Hulu with Live TV

With the standard Hulu subscription, you can add on Showtime for $11, Cinemax for $10, STARZ for $9, and HBO for $15. These channels include all the same content you get with a traditional cable subscription.

Add a premium channel in hulu

  • If you want to add a premium channel, you need to log into your account at Hulu.com. 
  • Then go to your account page. 
  • Then select Manage Addons to add any or all of the premium channels you want.
  • You do not need to subscribe to Hulu with Live TV to add the premium channels. 
  • The add-ons are also available to standard Hulu subscribers.

Need for speed

Hulu and Hulu + Live TV can be streamed at a variety of different quality levels that adjust automatically depending on your internet speed. Hulu needs a minimum download speed of 6 Mbps for Hulu in HD and 8 Mbps for Hulu + Live TV. If you stream to multiple devices, more bandwidth is required for a quality experience. Hulu also added limited 4K content back to its lineup. You need a well-oiled network to handle that.
