Notifications Not Working on your Apple Watch? Here is a Fix

Apple Watch is designed for convenience if you want to check your email and other important notifications. You receive notifications on your iPhone by default. But if your iPhone is locked or in sleep mode, you can still easily check those notifications on your Apple Watch which is paired with your iPhone. Sometimes your Apple Watch does not show you notifications for some unknown reasons. There are a few things you should know before fixing this problem and these are:

  1. Alerts for new notifications only appear on your Apple Watch when it is unlocked and you wear it.
  2. You do not get any notifications alerts on your Apple Watch if you are actively using your iPhone.

Best ways to fix the issue of notifications not working on your Apple Watch

You can turn off Do Not Disturb on Apple Watch

DO NOT DISTURB mode prevents you from getting alerts. If you do not get notifications about email, text, or any other notification then you should check and turn off the DO NOT DISTURB mode. Follow the given below steps to fix notifications not working on the Apple watch:

  • You need to open the Settings app on your Apple Watch
  • Then tap on Do Not Disturb and turn off the switch

Turn off Wrist Detection

Apple Watch only receives notifications when you wear it. There may be an issue with the sensor on the back of your Apple Watch that determines whether or not you wear it. If the sensor is broken, your Apple Watch may not be able to tell that you are wearing it. So, you do not receive notifications. You need to turn off Wrist Detection entirely. You can disable Wrist Detection if you have a faulty or damaged back sensor. Follow the given below steps to turn off Wrist Detection:

  • You need to go to Watch app on your iPhone
  • Then, tap Passcode then turn off the switch in front of Wrist Detection
  • You need to confirm the selection.
  • If you disable Wrist protection then your Apple Watch does not automatically lock.

Customized Notifications

If Apple Watch notifications do not come for a certain app then you can customize notifications. This can be fixed easily with the following steps:

  • Then tap the My Watch tab.
  • And then tap Notifications.
  • Then tap an app.
  • Different apps have different options. To use the same notification settings on your Apple Watch and iPhone, you need to tap Mirror my iPhone. Some apps enable you to customize your notifications. When you customize notifications, you can choose from the given below options:
  • Allow Notifications: The notifications appear in the Notification Center and your Apple Watch alerts you.
  • Send to Notification Center: The notifications send directly to Notification Center without your Apple Watch alerting you.
  • Notifications Off: The app does not send notifications.
  • If you customize the notifications of an app, you can also group notifications from that app. You need to tap Notification grouping then choose an option:
  • Off
  • Automatically
  • By the app
  • If you cannot customize an app, you can still turn off its notifications. You need to scroll down to the Mirror iPhone Alerts From section and turn off the setting next to the app.

Not receiving notifications for a specific App

If you do not get notifications on your Apple Watch from a specific app, then you may turn off alerts for the app. Follow the below steps if not receiving notifications for a specific App:

  • You need to go to the Watch app on your iPhone and tap Notifications.
  • When you scroll down, you see a list of the apps installed on your Apple Watch.
  • You need to find the app from which you do not receive the notifications and then tap on it.
  • If you have custom settings for the app, ensure that the switch next to Show Alerts is turned on. You see Show Alerts is on when the switch next to it is green.
  • If you mirroring the notification settings on your iPhone for the app, you need to go to the Settings app on your iPhone and tap Notifications.
  • Then scroll down to the app from which you do not receive notifications and tap on it. You need to ensure that the switch next to Allow Notifications is turned on. 

Check Bluetooth Connectivity

Apple Watch requires an active Bluetooth connection in order to receive notifications in real-time. You need to check if your Apple Watch is properly connected with your iPhone.

Check Internet Connectivity on iPhone

You need an active internet connection on your iPhone to receive notifications. You need to ensure that you either use cellular data or WiFi.

Check for Software Updates

Sometimes software glitches can cause the basic functionality of the Apple Watch. You need to check if there is a watchOS update available. If yes, then you need to update it right away and see if things are working. You also need to check for iOS updates.

Turn ON Cover to Mute Option

Follow the given below steps:

  • You need to open the Apple Watch App on iPhone
  • Then tap on My Watch
  • You can find the Cover to Mute option under the Sounds and Haptics section.
  • And then turn this option OFF.
  • Then you can start getting notifications on your Apple Watch. Then you can turn the option ON.
